Street Closure of 500 Block of Caroline for Sewer Line Replacement

Work continues in the 500 block of Caroline Street. The block which is between Wolfe Street and Lafayette Boulevard will be closed to traffic during working daylight hours Monday through Friday, for a period of approximately five weeks. Street parking will not be available during that time as well.

March 17 Update:  Crews working the project during the week of March 13 discovered an active, unknown secondary sewer main.   Plans are being made to abandon the secondary sewer main and connect all sanitary sewer laterals into the new main being constructed in the street.

Weekday, daytime closures of the 500 block of Caroline Street will continue for approximately 2 – 3 weeks while the new sewer main is completed.   After the new sewer main has been installed (anticipated completion by mid-April), replacement of sewer laterals will commence and that work will require the full closure of the 500 block of Caroline Street on a 24-hour basis until the work is completed.  Completion of the sewer lateral replacements is anticipated to take approximately 2 – 3 weeks.    The original time frame for completion of the water and sewer mains was anticipated for early May, followed by repaving of the street; however, the additional unanticipated work may extend the project completion date.  The City plans to meet with the contractor (W.C. Spratt) during the week of March 20 to assess the project and the additional scope of work and develop an updated project schedule.
