City Government public buildings are closed to public access due to COVID-19. Please see below for ways to conduct business with the City of Fredericksburg during these closures. Each department has options for online or mail-in transaction listed below.
On April 7th Council approved Ordinance No. 20-05 to Address Continuity of City Government During the Pendency of a Pandemic Disaster. Remote Public Meetings and Remote Public Hearings have been temporarily authorized to ensure continuity of City government during this disaster caused by COVID-19 pandemic.

Request Meeting Notifications - Any person may subscribe to receive emailed notices of public meetings through the City’s “Newsflash” service, by subscribing through the City’s home page. (From the “Community” menu item, select “Meeting Notifications.” Sign in with an email address to subscribe to Calendar Notices and Agenda Notices for the City Council or the board or commission for which you would like to receive notifications.)

Participating in Public Meetings - The public is encourage to access the meeting though the broadcast on Cox Channel 84 and Verizon Channel 42. The meetings can also be viewed on our www.regionalwebtv.com/fredcc or accessed through Facebook at www.facebook.com/FXBGgov.
Special Public Hearing/Public Comment for Virtual Meetings - Citizens who wish to participate in the public hearing or public comment period will be able to send their comments in writing by (1) dropping them in the Deposit Box at City Hall, (2) U.S. Mail, (3) through a form on our website https://www.fredericksburgva.gov/677/Public-Comment or (4) email to the Clerk of Council. Comments must be received at least four hours in advance of the meeting – for example, comments will be accepted until 1:30 p.m., on nights with a 5:30 p.m. work session. All comments provided will be forwarded to members of council. The plan is to read these comments out loud during the public hearing or public comment portion of the City Council meeting. The standard rules apply to public hearing and public comments: the person must identify himself or herself by name and address, including zip code, limit his or her remarks to 3 minutes or less (read aloud), and address a topic of City business. Public comments are limited to a total of 40 minutes, with priority for comments from City residence or businesses.

Commissioner of the Revenue:
Business Licenses and applications may be faxed (540-372-1197) or emailed to email@example.com. If a fee accompanies them, it will need to be placed in the drop box. Any and all questions will be handled via phone (540-372-1004).
Payment must accompany filing so the drop box at City Hall, 715 Princess Anne St. to the right of the main doors will need to be used. Any and all questions will be handled via phone (540-372-1004).
Personal Property Tax
Any changes to vehicles may be phoned (540-372-1004), emailed (firstname.lastname@example.org), or faxed (540-372-1197)
Work on permits and new construction will continue as able. Landlord licenses will be handled the same way as business licenses above. Any and all questions will be handled via phone (540-372-1004).
Community Planning and Building Services:
- Hard copy of materials can be exchanged at the back door, please call 540-372-1080 to arrange a pick-up or drop-off.
- Building inspections are continuing. Schedule inspections by calling 540-372-1080.

Parks, Recreation & Events:
Fredericksburg Police Department Records Office is closed to the public until further notice. Fingerprinting services are also suspended until further notice.
If you need a copy of a police report or accident report:
Accident reports that are not hit-and-run related may be obtained online at Police.FXBG.com. Click on the Reports button and follow the instructions. If you have difficulty with the process, contact us at 540-372-1165 for further assistance. All reports will be sent via e-mail, fax, or mail.
If you need a parking permit:
All requests for parking permits will need to be submitted via e-mail or postal mail. Follow the instructions on our website for applications and required documentation. All parking permits will be sent to residents via courier.
If you need a background check:
Background checks may be submitted via e-mail or fax.
If you need to submit an alarm permit:

Utility Bill payments for Water Bills are available HERE
Both systems accept eCheck as a free service at all times. Credit card transactions will have the 2.5% convenience fee.
Payments and inquiries for all tax types and utilities and fees (like dog tags, burglar alarm fees, building permits, parking passes etc) by phone at 540-372-1001, option 5, only by credit card.

Cash payments in person can be made by way of the payment drop box located to the right of the front doors to City Hall. Please insert your money and bill remittance coupon into one of the envelopes located in the pouch below the drop box, put your name on the outside of the envelope and drop it into the slot. Then call the Treasurer’s Office, (540)372-1001, option 5, to let us know you have a cash payment and need a receipt and a staff member will be there momentarily to assist you. We will return your change and receipt in your envelope back out through the same slot. For your safety and ours, we are not permitted to open the front door to assist customers face-to-face.
Drop Box available for paper checks or money orders at City Hall, 715 Princess Anne St. to the right of the main doors. Cash payments should only be dropped in above described circumstances.
