In 1985, Jannan Holmes came to Fredericksburg as a student at Mary Washington College. After completing a Master of Social Work degree at Virginia Commonwealth University, she returned to Fredericksburg in 1995 to begin a career counseling children and families in the Fredericksburg area. In 1998 Jannan entered private practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, continuing to provide therapy to children, adolescents, and families from her Fredericksburg office. In 2022, she completed the Sorenson Institute’s Political Leaders Program, working with leaders from across the state and political spectrum. 

Jannan has served Fredericksburg as a volunteer with many organizations including the Rappahannock Council Against Sexual Assault, Fredericksburg Area Health and Support Services (FAHASS), Empowerhouse, Micah, and St. George’s Outreach Committee and Vestry. 

After volunteering in numerous capacities for the Fredericksburg City Schools, she was elected to the School Board in 2010 and served through 2023. She served as the Fredericksburg School Board Chair and Vice Chair twice, and Virginia School Boards’ Association’s Northeastern Regional Chair and Vice-Chair. She was appointed to the Governor’s Taskforce for School-Based Health Centers and the state Gifted Advisory Committee. 

Jannan lives in Westmont with her husband, George. They have two adult children, Noah and Max who grew up in Fredericksburg, and attended Fredericksburg City Public Schools through graduation at James Monroe High School.
