Join a Board or Commission
If you are interested in becoming more active in the government of your city, you might consider a position on a board or commission. Citizens are appointed by the Fredericksburg City Council to serve a limited number of two- to five-year terms.
For specific board and commission information regarding purposes, duties, and appointment opportunities; contact the Clerk of Council. The City of Fredericksburg does not discriminate on the basis of disability in the admission or access to its programs, services, or activities. (EOE)
How to Apply
Fredericksburg residents interested in serving on any of the city’s boards and commissions are welcome to complete the online application to apply. Vacancies are usually advertised two months before a vacancy becomes available unless the vacancy is unexpected (resignation, resident status change, etc.). Submit applications to the City Clerk’s Office via the website. By clicking the application link below you can complete and submit the application electronically.
Interview Process
The City Council holds interviews for appointments to the Architectural Review Board, Board of Zoning Appeals, Building Codes Appeals Board, Economic Development Authority, and Planning Commission. Interviews are conducted on the second Tuesday of the month and usually last approximately 15-minutes and applications must be received by close of business on the first Tuesday of the month. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered at this time. The Clerk of Council will contact the applicants 7-10 days prior to the meeting to schedule interviews.
The City Council will make appointments at a Council meeting after all interviews have been completed.
