Kids to Parks Day
For All Ages!
Saturday, May 21 from 9 am – 5 pm
Location: FXBG City Parks
FREE, no registration needed
Gather the whole family to take part in this national day created to get kids outside! Take this opportunity to visit a bunch of Fredericksburg parks and complete a fun scavenger hunt in the process. Download the scavenger hunt here.
Visit at least 6 of the 10 parks involved to figure out the answers to fun animal questions. Scavenger Hunt Worksheets will be available online or for pick up from the Dorothy Hart Community Center May 16-21. Completed scavenger hunt worksheets need to be turned in to the Dorothy Hart Community Center by 5 pm on Saturday, May 21. Completed worksheets will be entered into a raffle for prizes and the grand prize of a kid’s bike!
Picnic in the Park
Tuesdays in May and June at 11:30am - 1:30pm
Memorial Park, 1301 Kenmore Avenue
Join us for music and children’s activities. Bring a picnic lunch or buy one from our park vendors while you enjoy the sunshine with your children, friends and co-workers. Location: Motts Run Reservoir
$5/car (additional fees for boat rentals), Advance registration recommended. All Ages.
Gather for a concert on the lake at Motts Run Reservoir. Bring your own boat or rent one of ours. Pack a picnic dinner to enjoy while floating and listening to a band on the pier. Sorry, boaters only for the concert, no shoreline listeners. SUPs are not permitted on the reservoir. Reserving boat rentals in advance is recommended! You can reserve yours online at FXBGparks.com. Kids Fishing Derby
Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Location: Motts Run Reservoir FREE, Pre-registration recommended
Fishing, boat rentals, prizes, hiking, picnicking… fun for the entire family! Join us for this “Free Fishing Weekend” (no license required) as kids compete to catch the biggest fish! Turn in your 5 biggest fish for weigh-in and compete for the top prize in your age group. Participating kids receive free breakfast & lunch. T-shirts will be first come, first serve for those who didn't pre-register. Rain Date: Sunday, June 5
- 7:30-10:00 – On-site Registration & Check-In
- 8:30-11:00 – Tournament
- 11:00-12:00 – Weigh-In (& throughout tournament)
- 12:00-12:30 – Awards

Great American Campout at Dixon Park
Pre-registration is required
Co-Sponsored with Fredericksburg Police Department
Enjoy an evening of games, campfire, s’mores and activities at the pool. Patrons will have the opportunity to camp at Doris E. Buffett Pool and enjoy dinner and breakfast poolside. Set up your tent outside the pool area and enjoy swimming and games into the night and early morning! Check in at 6:30pm on Friday and check out by 10:00am on Saturday. $10 per person, children 3 and under free. Children (17yrs and younger) must be accompanied by adult. Pre-registration is required. Pocket the Corn Snake is turning 25 this year! Slither on over and celebrate her 25th Birthday at the Nature Center! We’ll hang out with Pocket, make a craft, play a game or two, and enjoy a sweet treat. Stop by anytime between 2-4 pm to take part in this special celebration.
