Special Cleanup Events

Spring & Fall Community Cleanup Weeks

Spring and Fall Community Weeks (PDF) are great opportunities to clean up City yards and neighborhoods. During these weeks, the Public Works Department collects certain types of materials (e.g., appliances, brush, building materials, furniture, mattresses, scrap materials, tires) from special dumpsters located throughout the City.

Earth Day

is in April each year, but you can celebrate everyday by recycling! Visit the website of the Rappahannock Regional Solid Waste Management Board to find a recycling center near you.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days (PDF) are held each spring and fall. This special collection is open only to City and Stafford County residents. NOTE: The R-Board is unable to host a second Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Disposal Day this year (Fall of 2022). They are currently working on securing a date for next year. This webpage and R-Board.org website will be updated once the details are finalized.

The Public Works Department also holds summer and winter Curbside Bulk Collections (PDF) for items such as appliances, Christmas trees, and furniture. These curbside collections are severely restricted/temporarily suspended due to Covid-imposed restrictions, staff shortages, and Covid-associated budget redirection

Seasonal Leaf Collection runs from November 1st through December 31st each year
