Child Protective Services goal, through assessment and investigation, is to provide services to children and families in an effort to protect children, preserve families, and prevent further maltreatment.
Prevention Services may be provided to families prior to the receipt of a valid Child Protective Services referral. The goal of prevention services is to strengthen the family by ensuring safety, preventing future child abuse or neglect, and preventing out of home care.
To make a report of child abuse or neglect call (540) 940-2401 or after hours call the toll free hotline (800)-552-7096.
Mandated reporters only can make a report online on the VaCPS website.
Child support services in Virginia are handled by the Division of Child Support Enforcement. Please contact their local Fredericksburg office at 2342 Plank Road, Fredericksburg, VA, or by phone at (800) 468-8894.

Unsafe sleep environments have become one of the leading causes of death in infants in the U.S. Our Department's campaign educates caretakers, assesses sleep environments and provides new portable cribs to those in need. Please contact our Department at (540) 372-1032 if you would like to donate to our campaign or are in need of a portable crib.
