The City of Fredericksburg's Resource Families Coordinator provides the following services:

  • Recruits Foster/Adoptive Homes
  • Trains and Approves Resource Families
  • Provides Initial and Ongoing Resource Parent Training
  • Support to the Resource Families
  • Assists in placing children who have been removed from their home with a resource family who can best meet the needs of the child.
  • The Fredericksburg Resource Families Foster to Adopt program is based on a concurrent planning model. Concurrent planning involves resource families committing to reunification of the child (ren) to the biological family, while also committing to adopt the child (ren) if reunification cannot occur.

Facts about Fredericksburg’s Resource Foster and Kinship Care:

  • Resource foster parents are encouraged to participate in routine meetings about their child.
  • Resource foster parents are required to support a visitation plan with a child’s family.
  • Resource foster parents are required to complete 10 hours of annual training each year. 
  • A single person can become a resource foster parent.
  • Foster care is supposed to be temporary.
  • Kinship care mean a relative or someone the child knows can become a resource foster parent.
