Absentee Voting

Vote by Mail and Early Voting provides allows voters to cast their ballot prior to Election Day.. Vote by Mail and Early voting begins at least 45 days before most elections and ends for in-person early voters on the Saturday before the election.

Do I qualify to vote by-mail or early vote?

Yes. On July 1, 2020 new laws took effect which allow any voter to vote early or absentee by mail. More information can be found HERE. 

Absentee Voting

There are two types of Absentee voting

1) Early voting allows a voter to cast their ballot in-person prior to Election Day. Voters must come to the Voter Registrar's office.

2) Vote-by-mail or absentee voting allows the voter to return their ballot via US Mail or by hand delivery to the Voter Registrar to the Ballot Drop Box located at the front of 601 Caroline St. Voters must submit an absentee ballot application to receive their ballot.

I would like to vote by mail. How do I do that?

1) You may apply for to receive your Absentee Ballot by-mail HERE.

2) You may also download and print the Vote by Mail application  HERE. Or you may email the Voter Registrar at: vote@vote.fredericksburgva.gov or call 540-372-1030 and request a paper application be mailed to you.

  1. Print the form
  2. Read the instructions accompanying the form
  3. Fill out the requested information on the form carefully and legibly. 
  4. Sign the form
  5. Mail, email, fax, or hand deliver to the drop box the completed application to be received by the Voter Registrar by the second Friday at 5:00 p.m. before Election Day to receive your ballot by mail

Notice to voters using US mail service for Vote by Mail voting:

The USPS allows 3 to 7 days for a first class piece of mail. Please take this into consideration as you start thinking about absentee voting by-mail. Do not wait to apply or to return your ballots. Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received in the Registrar’s office by Noon on the Friday after Election Day. You may not hand deliver your own ballot after 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.

How do I early vote in the City of Fredericksburg?

1) You must appear in the Office of the General Registrar within 45 days of an election. The last day to vote in-person absentee is the Saturday prior to an election.

Hours: 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday and for November General Elections the last two Saturdays prior to Election Day. 

Free 4-hour parking is available at the rear of the building in the City parking garage.

2) You must be a registered voter of the City of Fredericksburg
