Absentee Voting

Absentee and Early Voting provides means for qualified voters to participate in upcoming elections when they may not be able to go to the polls on Election Day. Absentee and Early voting begins at least 45 days before most elections and ends for in-person early voters on the Saturday before the election. All voters qualify to vote via absentee and/or early voting.

Do I qualify to vote by-mail absentee or early vote?

Yes. On July 1, 2020 new laws took effect which allow any voter to vote early or absentee by mail. More information can be found HERE. 

I would like a ballot mailed to me. How do I do that ?

1) You may apply for to receive your Absentee Ballot by-mail HERE.

2) You may also download and print the Absentee Ballot Application Form HERE. Or you may email the Voter Registrar at: vote@vote.fredericksburgva.gov or call 540-372-1030 and request a paper application be mailed to you.

  1. Print the form
  2. Read the instructions accompanying the form
  3. Fill out the requested information on the form carefully and legibly. 
  4. Sign the form
  5. Mail, email, fax, or hand deliver to the red drop box the completed application to be received by the Voter Registrar by the second Friday at 5:00 p.m. before Election Day to receive your ballot by mail

Notice to voters using US mail service for by-mail absentee voting:

The USPS allows 3 to 7 days for a first class piece of mail. Please take this into consideration as you start thinking about absentee voting by-mail. Do not wait to apply or to  return your ballots as soon as you can to ensure they arrive by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. Ballots received after 7:00 p.m. will not be counted.

How do I early vote in the City of Fredericksburg?

1) You must appear in the Office of the General Registrar within 45 days of an election. The last day to vote in-person absentee is the Saturday prior to an election.

In-Person Absentee voting location:

Hours: 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday and for November General Elections the last two Saturdays prior to Election Day. For all other elections the last Saturday prior to Election Day. 

Free 2-hour parking is available at the rear of the building in the City parking garage.

2) You must be a registered voter of the City of Fredericksburg

3) You must present photo identification or other qualifying document.
