New Street Parking Policies and Restrictions in Neighborhoods Near the UMW Campus

After several months of community review and discussion of recommendations contained in the 2017 Parking Action Plan, City Council, at its June 26 meeting, took final action to adopt new street parking policies and restrictions in the College Heights and College Terrace neighborhoods. The new system, to take effect August 15 to concur with the start of the fall semester at UMW, involves the removal of all current “No UMW Student Parking” signs from neighborhood streets and designation of most of the blocks between College Avenue and Stafford Avenue in College Heights as either “Resident Permit Parking” or “Two Hour Parking Except by Permit” during peak parking demand periods with a smaller number of streets in College Terrace (between Sunken Road and Littlepage Street) designated as “Two Hour Parking Except by Permit.” The areas affected and the specific parking restrictions in each area are shown on the attached maps.

Residents of the affected areas have received a notice from the City containing the details of the new policies/restrictions, including instructions for obtaining decals to place on their vehicles to identify them as belonging to residents of the respective neighborhoods.

Questions and comments about this matter may be directed to Assistant City Manager Doug Fawcett at 540-372-1023 or dfawcett@fredericksburgva.gov
